In the MoreThanLifting Podcast Episode 8, Rhys & Chris discuss cross conditioning, combining training methods & disciplines, and Chris tells us the story about the Herbalife Coffee Shop Guys! We also talk about meditation, different movement planes and how to train them and all kinds of other crazy stuff.

Oh AND we lay down the rules for Rock, Paper, Scissors!

  • Chris liked my Cross Video on Instagram – Check out the page!
  • Chris hasnt been pole dancing
  • Chris had never thought of using the cble machineto simulate rings
  • He doesnt often see things happening in the gym that he wouldnt have thought of himself
  • He is so smart
  • This cross exercise is a great example of using other methods of training to build bodyweight strength skills
  • I have another one of me using the assist belt on the rings (which Ill put here)
  • If you are interested in learning ring skills it is a great way of simulating that movement
  • I can stick it on the lower weight for the cross to get the lower and press out
  • I can hit it higher for muscle ups – which is also a great idea guys
  • Just stick a yoga mat down or something so you dont hurt your knees
  • There are some new dumb bells down the gym which have hexagonal weights instead of round ones
  • I’ve been using them as parallettes when it is quiet (in the iddle of the day)
  • It isn’t because I am self conscious i dont like getting in the ay and it can be a bit cringey having people watch you
  • Stability with parallettes give you much better forearm activation compared to having your hands flat on the floor
  • And gives your wrist a bit of a rest from over extension
  • Ive been doing presses, negatives to elbow lever
  • Straddle and pike presses
  • These are different to push ups they are straight arm levers
  • I over balanced and had to do a rollout onto the floor
  • Now my back is bruised!
  • The one downside of doing bodyweight stuff in the gym is the floor – its not set up for tumbling!
  • Chris know’s what I’m on about
  • Its good to mix the environments and get you training within the gym because it gets people involved and gets people thinking about what they are doing for their training
  • It makes a great conversation starter
  • It is good to go to a different place to train where you can get a bit of inspiration on new training methods and having a different conversation
  • I find people dont talk to me about calisthenics in the gym
  • Its only when we get in the sauna a steam room
  • Im one of those people who will talk to you if we are sat down
  • The steam room is a great place to do that
  • When you are training you are in the zone – you might not want to talk to people about boxing
  • British etiquette states that the 2 places you dont talk to people is the gym and on the tube
  • Rhys has a pretty good tube story
  • When i was engineering I was on the tube moving between jobs
  • Shout outs to keith basing
  • So on the tube I was standing next to this girl (she was gorgeous
  • We are all packed in and these cahirs becaomme avaiable
  • I say she can sit and shesaid thanks
  • Then the chair next to her frees up and she says I can sit down
  • I’m like nah you can give it to someone else
  • This old indian lady goes to sit down and I stick my hand out and go No! Not Her! Not thinking about how it will come across
  • Well it sounded so racist! And it could have been anyone – just happened to be this old indian lady
  • I laugh it off and look at her and i turn to her and said oh now look what youve done youve got me in trouble
  • Well it all went from there
  • She happened to have a situation with another man 🙁
  • It was a fun journey and a great story
  • No woman has every woken up and thought I really hope I dont get swept off my feet today
  • So if you see a nice girl who looks like they need a smile say hi
  • Dont creep people out, dont flash them or anything
  • So thats it for our dating advice
  • I think the weather is the only thing we havent spoken about yet
  • What pecentage of your conversations are about the weather?
  • When we talk to strangers it is the only thing we have in common with everyone
  • Proper british thing!
  • You would think we shared more commonalities than thaat
  • How are your haemoglobin levels!?
  • I have not been on any spiritual journeys lately, I havent been meditating
  • There is so much science on meditation now that you are doing yourself a disservice by not meditating
  • I met this girl who did webinars and she was saying her kids in school have meditation hours before their GCSEs and stuff
  • In some places the do tai chi before school
  • Meditating or doing tai chi or yoga will have a huge effect on future generations
  • It will encourage empathy and compassion
  • Shall we talk about training a bit?
  • You see the same thing in the training world
  • Everything complements everything else
  • Find a way to complement the things you are most interested in
  • You can find benefit in mixing it up maybe do some deadlifts
  • Where chris hasnt been training he has just been doing big compound lifts for the biggest bang for his buck
  • But he wasnt doing and complimentary work
  • He has fod he starts to fatigue a bit earier because he hasnt worked on his arms so much
  • Chris was doing bicep curls this morning and he has noticed that there is a difference in those exercises because he hasnt been focused on ittoo much
  • Anything helps -just not zumba
  • Apparently Zumba make their money selling tracks to trainers
  • It is like a personal trainer making more money from supplements rather than training
  • Chris’s herbal life experience
